Hot Shoes for Kool Feet!
From time to time sample products
come across my desk for review. Some products are just not worth their
salt and find their way to some use or another. A call from Dubarry's
to ask if I would be interested in trying out their latest 2007 season
trainer shoes in both the punishing environment of RIBing and
on my feet (they must have heard something along the grapevine)
I've always viewed Dubarry footwear from afar, far away from my pocket,
as they hold a premier position in the marine footwear market place
and at premium prices. So for a long time now I've made do with 'sticky'
soled wellingtons and clumpy deck shoes. You may be able to imagine
my first thoughts when they duly arrived and were clearly marked 'Made
Fit or Fashion?
Dubarry's marketing promotes this new season deck shoe as
a ... "fashionable, sturdy trainer style deck shoe offering any sailor
the water". I prefer fit and comfort as I have unusual feet (doesn't
everyone) with quite a high instep and broad fitting. You can't image
when the trainer accommodated my footwidth and instep in a standard
shoe size. The level of comfort was really quite remarkable and my
feet also appreciated the lightweight midsole to increase the shock
absorbency. It felt like walking on air.
Fashion (as if I need it!) in reality comes second
to fit and comfort in my book. I wore these deck shoes all day and
everyday when boating (and often when not) this
spring and during our very wet early summer. They are a dream to
wear, extremely light on the feet and very sure footed. My
feet also appreciated the circulating air underfoot which wicked away
and I know my companions certainly appreciated
the odour prevention lining.
Value for Money?
If I had not had the opportunity I would never have
believed that by paying a little extra it would have resulted in
such a remarkable level of comfort and sure footed safety when onboard.
Forget the 'Made in China' label, Dubarry have found a supplier who
have matched their technical specification and produced a remarkable
piece of footwear. The retail price of £70 on these deck
shoes reflect the high quality of these genuine top
performance marine trainers. A very good buy.
